Women Safety Socio-Legal Awareness
Program
14 March 2015 On the occasion of women\92s Day celebrations month Aai Caretaker,
Chembur in association
with Khidmat Samaj Association of
Welfare and Educational Trust, Mumbai and OXY Just Charitable Society,
Mumbai, came together and had
organized an eye opening program for women safety and awareness titled
Cyber Crimes and Women safety socio
legal awareness.
The program took place at N.G.
Acharya & D.K. Maratha College, Chembur, Mumbai.
The objective of this program was to
spread awareness on women safety, Cyber crimes
and legal awareness on all types of
crimes and violence against women such as sexual harassment, in-house
violence, dowry, birth assassination
of female child, honor killings, cyber crime, rapes and many such crimes.
This was one of the unique platform
where all the different sections of society including college going youth which
includes boys
and girls, social workers, Police
officials, Doctors and legal advisors have joined the program and showed their
active participation.
After the quick guest of honor and
inauguration ceremony, we started with the program,
Following are the speakers who shared
their views and guidelines on the subject:
1)
Dr. Dhanalaxmi Iyyer
Doctor by profession Ms. Dhanalaxmi have
given an examples of some cases where women harassment is common at working
places by their colleagues in many
ways such as passing sarcastic comments, comments on physical appearance, eave
teasing
and sexual harassment. She further
added that in such cases crime is very difficult to prove because the
punishment laws are
not mentioned clearly in the books of
law, in such cases only the response of such victims is important to prove the
crime and to
lower the crime rate women has to be
more stronger where law is not enough for the punishment. She also highlighted
the
Nirbhaya case happened in Delhi in
Dec 2012 and the larger impact and change took place in the society and in
judiciary system
after the incident.
2)
ACP - Bhimdev B Rathod
A senior police official from Chembur
Crime branch shared various facts on the current crime graph against women in
different parts
of state and metro cities in
Maharashtra. He shifted everyone\92s attention towards safety and the cautions
which could prevent such crimes.
He further
divided women in to four groups:
1. College going teenage girls who
travels at city roads and public transport
2. Married and unmarried working
women who work till late at the evening
3. House wives who remained at home and
are alone at home most of the times
4. School going female child
He insists
females to carry some small safety weapons like Chili spray, quick shocker or
small blades which they can easily carry in
their purse and can use them when
found in danger. He also given guidelines about the cautions needs to be taken
while visiting to
the isolated
places and when they are joining celebration parties with male friends.
He also
shared the details of newly started SMS facility by the Central Government for
female safety while traveling alone at night timings.
3) Advocate.
Rusbhe Raje
Advocate Raje helped the participants
with how to keep our mobile phones, other gadgets and personal details safe by
keeping our passwords
secret also he guided on how to keep
our identification details private while doing banking transactions. For
females he guided them on how to
identify and track the fake calls,
e-mails from fake e-mail ids, and how to protect your data while using social
networks with the help of privacy settings.
He also
suggested men and women to avoid putting intimate and personal pictures on
social media like face book, twitter and whats app and how they
might be
misused by antisocial elements of the society. Putting identification hints,
two way password identification methods like which I have and which
I know for
example- if you go to withdraw cash from the ATM two things you need to provide
are 1. The ATM card 2. The ATM pin That is the one that you
have is ATM
card and the other that you know is the ATM Pin
4) Advocate
Anthony D\92silva
Mr. Anthony
shred his views on the legal proceedings and functioning of fast track courts
for justice for victims in rare to rare cases like Delhi rape case.
He also shared his views and public
views on rape cases like Nirbhaya. He also invites all the participants\92

negative impacts on the judiciary
system and society due to the provision of capital punishment in rape case.
